UltraViolet Shutdown

Why is UltraViolet going away?

In the years since UltraViolet’s launch, we’ve seen the emergence of services that provide expanded options for content collection and management independent of UltraViolet.  This and other market factors have led to the decision to discontinue UltraViolet.

How can I access my existing movies and TV shows after UltraViolet shuts down?

In most cases, your movies and TV shows will be available via the retailers linked to your UltraViolet Library at the time of UltraViolet shutdown. Linking to additional retailers can maximize your access to your Library and help avoid potential disruption. Visit www.myuv.com/retailers for a list of retailers.

How will this affect my UltraViolet Library of movies and tv shows? Will my UltraViolet rights expire after the shutdown?

In most cases, we anticipate very little impact. Most, and perhaps all, existing rights in UltraViolet Libraries currently available through your linked retailers that are still operating should continue to be available from those retailers.  While there could be some disruption, we do not anticipate this on a broad scale and are working diligently to minimize and avoid such instances.

Can I continue to purchase content and redeem codes before UltraViolet shuts down?

Yes, you can continue to purchase digital content online and redeem digital copy codes. Before UltraViolet shuts down, purchases and code redemptions may or may not appear in your UltraViolet Library in addition to your account at the retailer where you purchase or redeem. After UltraViolet shuts down, you can continue to make online purchases and redeem codes as before through your chosen retailer, but the content may only be available through that retailer.

If I have unredeemed codes after UltraViolet shuts down can I still use them?

You can follow the instructions on the insert to redeem the code. No UltraViolet right will be created, so the content may only be available through that retailer.

Is there a list of UltraViolet retailers?

Visit www.myuv.com/retailers for a list of retailers in your country.

Where can I find out which retailers are linked to my UltraViolet Library?

Navigate to www.myuv.com, log in, and choose “RETAILER SERVICES" at the top right.

Will my current retailer account(s) be affected?

The UltraViolet shutdown will not change your relationship with individual retailers. You should not need to log in again or change anything after the shutdown. You’ll simply notice that UltraViolet options will no longer be available.

When will my UltraViolet account be closed?

The planned UltraViolet shutdown is on July 31, 2019.  Don’t unlink or close your UltraViolet Library, as UltraViolet and retailers will be working together to maximize your continued access to movies and TV shows. Your UltraViolet Library will be automatically closed after UltraViolet shuts down.

Can I get a record of all the movies and TV shows in my UltraViolet Library?

Log into myuv.com to view your complete UltraViolet Library. Click on a movie or TV show to see the details, including the retailer where you acquired it.

Will I have to repurchase my movies or TV shows if the original retailer is out of business?

In general, if you can watch a movie or TV show from your UltraViolet Library at a linked retailer today, you’ll be able to continue watching it after UltraViolet shuts down. Visit myuv.com/retailers for a list of current retailers. In some cases, there may not be a retailer in your country who can provide access to rights that came from a different retailer. You may wish to contact the studio or company that made or distributed the movie or TV show for help:

I use one retailer to manage and watch all my movies. Do I need to make any changes?

If you purchased or redeemed your movies and TV shows at a current UltraViolet retailer, you can continue to use that retailer. If you purchased or redeemed some movies or TV shows from a different retailer but now use one retailer to watch them all, you don’t need to make any changes. However, it’s important that you not close or unlink your UltraViolet Library, as the retailer may still be working on ensuring that you have continued access after UltraViolet shuts down.

What will happen to the information in my UltraViolet Library after shutdown?

Your UltraViolet Library will be closed automatically and your information will not be retained by UltraViolet. UltraViolet doesn’t maintain mailing lists for commercial marketing purposes. We share your information with participating UltraViolet services only if you link your UltraViolet Library to that service, and they may retain that information after the UltraViolet shutdown. For details about what a retailer does with your information, visit that retailer.

What happens to movies or TV shows I bought through UltraViolet that aren’t available at a retailer or don’t move to another service?

Please keep in mind that UltraViolet only coordinates interoperability among retailers. UltraViolet does not provide content streams or downloads directly to customers, and instead relies on retailers to provide these services. Some movies and TV shows are no longer available through certain UltraViolet retailers. You may want to make sure to link your UltraViolet Library to as many retailers as possible to maximize access. Please contact the retailer where you made the purchase. If the retailer is no longer in business, you may wish to contact the studio:

Are there any costs associated with maintaining my Library and continuing to access movies and TV shows after this shutdown?

There is no charge to maintain your UltraViolet Library, and we encourage you not to close it or unlink. Following shutdown, your UltraViolet Library will automatically close. Also, none of the current participating UltraViolet retailers charge for having an account.

Will I still be able to access my movies and TV shows via computer, phone, game console, or other devices after UltraViolet shuts down?

Each retailer chooses the devices and platforms they support. Check with your retailer(s) for details.

Will I need to change any settings on my devices to make sure they still work with my movies and TV shows?

Streaming and download settings are determined by each individual retailer. Make sure to check with them for further details.

There are multiple users in my UltraViolet Library. Will we all be able to access the movies and TV shows in our shared Library?

If there are multiple users in your UltraViolet Library, their movies and TV shows should be accessible via the retailers linked to the UltraViolet Library at the time of UltraViolet shutdown. Each user should ensure that they have linked their individual retailer account(s) to the shared Library. Linking additional retailers can maximize each user’s access to the existing movies and TV shows in the Library. Visit www.myuv.com/retailers for a list of retailers. Purchases and code redemptions made after UltraViolet shuts down will only be available to the individual user unless the retailer supports multi-user accounts or family sharing.

Can I connect my UltraViolet Library to Vudu and/or FandangoNOW to access my movies via Movies Anywhere?

In the United States, if you link both your UltraViolet Library and your Movies Anywhere account to your Vudu account and/or your FandangoNOW account, you should see eligible movies from participating Movies Anywhere studios appear in Movies Anywhere. In some cases, eligible movies may not appear in Movies Anywhere until after the UltraViolet shutdown on July 31, 2019. To ensure access to your movies, do not close or unlink your UltraViolet Library. It will automatically close after the UltraViolet shutdown. For current and additional information, please visit the help section at vudu.com, fandangonow.com, or help.moviesanywhere.com.

I live outside the US, where UltraViolet retailer options are limited. Is there anything I can do to have continued access to my movies and TV shows?

During the months before UltraViolet shuts down, retailers are continuing to work on potential options for you to maintain access to your movies and TV shows.  As more information becomes available, retailers and UltraViolet will share it with you. Please look for and open further email communications from your retailer(s) and UltraViolet and visit their websites periodically for information.  In the meantime, we strongly recommend that you do not close your UltraViolet Library or unlink it from any retailers, and you may wish to link to an additional retailer if one is available in your territory. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this process.

Settings

What is a "linked service" and what does creating a link enable?

A "linked service" is an UltraViolet participating service, such as an online retailer, that you link with your UltraViolet Library. Linking your UltraViolet Library to an account you have with an UltraViolet retailer enables your purchases to be added to your UltraViolet Library and lets you watch some or all of your UltraViolet movies and TV shows through that retailer’s service. (See “How do I link UltraViolet retailers and my UltraViolet Library?”)

How do I view which retailers my UltraViolet Library is linked to?

Log in to myuv.com with your UltraViolet username and password, go to User Settings (in the Dashboard section), then open the "Linked Services" section. Each user of your Library may be linked to different retailer services, so they will need to log in and check their own links.

How do I link UltraViolet retailers and my UltraViolet Library?

UltraViolet participating retailers can link your account with them to your UltraViolet Library. The Retailer Services page lists retailers in your country. Visit the retailer’s website or app to link. Sign up at the retailer, or if you have an account at the retailer, look for an UltraViolet option in the retailer’s account settings page or menu. Some retailers default to automatically creating a new UltraViolet Library for you, so be sure to choose the option to link to your existing Library instead.

How do I unlink UltraViolet retailers from my UltraViolet Library?

Log in to myuv.com with your UltraViolet username and password, go to User Settings (in the Dashboard section), then open the Linked Services section. To remove a link, select "Unlink" next to the retailer service name. Be sure to select the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page when you are finished. You will not be able to relink from myuv.com. If you change your mind about a link you removed, visit the retailer's website or app to add it back.

Are there guidelines for creating my username?

Your username is the unique name that the UltraViolet system uses to identify you. We check your username at the time that you create it; if someone has already created a user profile with that username you will be instructed to choose a different username.

You can change your username at any time by going to User Settings, selecting your name or icon, and entering a new username. Your username must have at least 6 letters or numbers and no spaces. It may include periods (.), at signs (@), or hyphens (-).

I received a message saying my username already exists. What do I do?

Usernames must be unique in the entire UltraViolet system. Add a number or character to the username or select a different username and try again. You may want to use your email address as your username.

While trying to create a Library, I received a message saying a user account already exists using my email address. What do I do?

If your email address has been found in the UltraViolet system as a username, but you are not aware of having an active user account, you may have deleted the old user account directly or by merging Libraries. Your information is saved in case you want to restore it, which is why it’s still in the system. Use a different username or a different email address, or contact us for help.

If you deleted your entire Library and would like to recover it, follow the instruction at “How can I recover a closed Library?”

How do I correct user information?

You can change some of your profile information and profile information of other users that you share your Library with. To change user profile information, go to User Settings and select the user's name or icon.

What is the difference between a standard user and a full user?

Standard users can purchase new movies and TV shows from UltraViolet retailers, stream/download/watch movies and TV shows, link/unlink retailer services, view Library information, edit certain aspects of their user profiles, and remove standard users.

Full users can do everything a standard user can do, plus set/edit all user profile information for all users, remove full and standard users, change all user permissions, and rename, merge, or close the UltraViolet Library.

How do I alter the permissions of a user?

You must be a full user to change the permission level of another user. Go to User Settings, select the user's name or icon, and select "Full" or "Standard" in the permissions section. Don't forget to save your changes.

Can I merge two separate UltraViolet Libraries?

Yes. To merge two Libraries, log into one Library at myuv.com, go to Library Settings and select "Merge Libraries". Follow the steps to complete the merge. Only full users may merge accounts. You'll be asked to log in to the second Library, so be sure a full user for that Library is available to provide the login name and password.

What should I do if I forget my username or password?

Select "Forgot username or password?" on the login screen. Complete the form and select "Continue". We will send you an email with a link. Select the link in the email to log in and create a new password. Passwords must be at least 6 characters in length, with no spaces. Capitalization matters. Be sure to keep your password in a secure place for future reference.

When I log in to other sites with UltraViolet, what information is being shared?

When you go to an UltraViolet retailer and log in with your UltraViolet username and password, you allow the retailer to access and display your UltraViolet Library, including the names of movies and TV shows purchased by each user of your Library. You may also separately authorize a retailer to use your personal information to provide marketing services such as news and special offers.

What items can I edit in my user profile?

You can edit most information in your user profile, including your name, email address, username, and password.

How do I edit my profile?

Go to User Settings and select your name or icon. Change the desired information and select "Save Changes" when you are done.

How do I change my password?

Go to User Settings and select your name or icon. Change the desired information and select "Save Changes" when you are done.

Can I delete users from my UltraViolet Library?

If you are a full user, you can delete any other user of your Library. If you are a standard user, you can delete any other standard users of your Library. Deletion removes the user's profile but does not affect any movies or TV shows in your Library. To delete a user, go to User Settings, select the user you wish to delete, and select "Remove User". You and the user that was deleted will receive an email notification.

How can I restore a deleted user?

Select CONTACT US at the bottom of the page for assistance.

How was my Library named and how can I rename it?

Your Library name is often automatically assigned during sign up. A Library name can have any combination of up to 50 letters, numbers, and characters (including spaces). To rename your Library, go to Library Settings (in the Dashboard section). Enter the new name and select "Save Changes".

How do I close my UltraViolet Library?

We strongly recommend that you do not close your UltraViolet Library. UltraViolet and retailers are working to maximize your continued access to movies and TV shows. Your Library will automatically close after UltraViolet shuts down.

If you still wish to close your Library, go to Library Settings (in the Dashboard section), and then select "Close Library". A confirmation message will display. Select "Close Library" to complete the removal, or "Keep Library" to return to the Library Settings page. PLEASE NOTE THAT CLOSING YOUR LIBRARY WILL END YOUR ACCESS VIA ULTRAVIOLET TO THE MOVIES AND TV SHOWS ASSOCIATED WITH THAT LIBRARY. You will be able to reinstate your Library until the UltraViolet shutdown date. See "How can I recover a closed Library?"

How can I recover a closed Library?

It is possible to reopen a closed Library (but not a deleted user) as long as you act quickly. Simply log in at myuv.com with your username and password. You will be asked if you want to reactivate your Library, and you may need to accept the Terms of Use again. Your Library will be reactivated promptly. Note: You have until the UltraViolet shutdown date to reactivate a closed Library.

What parental control options are available to me?

Each UltraViolet partner provides parental control options specific to its service. Each retailer may give you a single setting for purchasing, streaming, and playback, or may give you separate settings for different environments such as apps, set-top boxes, and websites. You may have options to block anything labeled as “adult” or “explicit lyrics”, and you may have the option to block access to anything without a rating.

Changing parental control settings at one retailer will not change the parental control settings at other retailers that you use. Movies and TVs shows in your Library may be rated using different ratings systems, especially if they came from a different country. Ratings systems are associated with countries. You can choose which ratings systems are shown in your Library at myuv.com by selecting the Displayed Ratings System in your settings page.

If a user is deleted, what happens to the movies or TV shows purchased by that user?

Rights stay with the UltraViolet Library. Movies and TV shows purchased by the deleted user will be available to the remaining users.

The users of my UltraViolet Library are no longer together. How do I divide the movies and TV shows that are in the Library?

Rights cannot be moved to other UltraViolet Libraries. When a movie or TV show is added to a Library, it remains with that Library.

UltraViolet Basics

What is UltraViolet?

UltraViolet is a free, cloud-based digital rights library for the movies and TV shows that you purchase or redeem at participating retailers. When you buy a movie or TV show that comes with an UltraViolet right from a retailer that you have linked to your UltraViolet Library, it's automatically added to your UltraViolet Library and you have options to stream it over the Internet and/or download it for offline viewing to a variety of devices.

What is my "UltraViolet Library"?

Your UltraViolet Library is a record of all the UltraViolet rights you have acquired. For example, when you redeem a code that provides an UltraViolet right for a Blu-ray Disc or DVD you've purchased, or when you buy a movie or TV show online that comes with an UltraViolet right, those rights are stored in your UltraViolet Library if you have linked your Library to the retailer where you redeem or purchase. Your Library appears as a list of movies and TV shows, along with information about the specific rights involved such as HD or SD viewing. This record can be accessed by you and the UltraViolet retailers you choose to use.  Visit www.myuv.com/retailers for a list of retailers in your country. Each retailer provides additional information on how to access your UltraViolet Library.

How do I create a Library?

UltraViolet Libraries can be created at most UltraViolet retailers. (Select "Sign Up" to see a list.) You must be 13 or older to create an UltraViolet Library. If you are under 18 you must have parent or legal guardian permission. See the UltraViolet Terms of Use and UltraViolet Privacy Policy for more information.

Creating an UltraViolet Library does not require a credit card or any other financial information. You only need to provide your name, email address, and country, create a unique username and password, and accept the UltraViolet Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

What are the different ways I can see my UltraViolet Library?

You can view your Library on the Library page as well as at participating UltraViolet retailers.

How do I see my complete UltraViolet Library, including items purchased from all retailers?

Log in at myuv.com with your UltraViolet username and password, choose “MY LIBRARY” from the top right menu and select "View Library". This will display all the rights in your Library.

How can I confirm that the movie or TV show I purchased has rights stored in my UltraViolet Library?

Log in at myuv.com with your UltraViolet username and password, choose “MY LIBRARY” from the top right menu, and select "View Library". You should be able to see the item displayed. If you still cannot see a movie or TV show that you believe you purchased, contact customer service at the UltraViolet retailer where you bought it.  Some purchases and code redemptions will not result in UltraViolet rights.

I can't see certain movies and TV shows that should be in my Library. Where are they?

Check to see that the UltraViolet logo is associated with the movie or TV show at the retailer where you purchased or redeemed it.

Can I add previously purchased movies and TV shows to my Library?

Only movies and TV shows with UltraViolet rights can be added to your UltraViolet Library. This includes all titles you see for sale with the UltraViolet logo. Additionally, some retailers and studios may offer "disc to digital" programs in which movies and TV shows you already own can be upgraded with a grant of UltraViolet rights. Check with UltraViolet retailers for details. This feature may not be available in your country.

I see movies and TV shows available on my retailer's website for purchase that are not listed as UltraViolet. Why?

Not all movies and TV shows provided by a retailer are available with UltraViolet rights. To make sure you're buying something that does have UltraViolet rights, look for the UltraViolet logo.

Will my movies and TV shows play in countries other than where I purchased them?

Geographic restrictions may prevent you from downloading or streaming in a different country from where you originally bought the movie or TV show.

Why might I need an account with an UltraViolet participating retailer to watch and download movies and TV shows?

Your UltraViolet Library is a record of your UltraViolet movie and TV show rights. Download and streaming access is provided by UltraViolet participating retailers. Most retailers require that you create a separate account in their system to buy or access movies and TV shows from them. Each user of the UltraViolet Library will need a separate account at the retailer to watch or download UltraViolet movies and TV shows there. You can link your UltraViolet Library to your accounts at participating retailers (See " How do I link UltraViolet retailers and my UltraViolet Library?").

How does UltraViolet work?

Every time you buy an UltraViolet movie or TV show, you can add a digital "proof of purchase" to your UltraViolet Library. UltraViolet retailers and streaming services can then confirm your rights to the movie or TV show and enable you to watch.

Does it cost anything to set up and manage my UltraViolet Library?

No, UltraViolet Libraries are free of charge.

How can I ensure I do not repurchase UltraViolet movies or TV shows I already bought?

You can check to see what you have in your UltraViolet Library prior to making a purchase by viewing your Library on myuv.com. You may also receive a message from an UltraViolet retailer warning you that something is already in your UltraViolet Library.

Can I share my UltraViolet Library with other people?

The option to add new users to an UltraViolet Library is no longer available. If you previously added users to your Library, those users will remain in your shared Library.

What kind of personal information is collected when I create my UltraViolet Library?

Just the basics: Name, email address, and country. You don't need to provide a credit card to sign up for UltraViolet, although UltraViolet retailers may require a credit card to purchase UltraViolet movies and TV shows.

How do I edit my profile?

Go to User Settings and select your name or icon. Change the desired information and select "Save Changes" when you are done.

How do I change my password?

Go to User Settings and select your name or icon. Change the desired information and select "Save Changes" when you are done.

UltraViolet will close on July 31, 2019. See Help for more information.
